Network/Server Speed Test

ServerPoint takes great pride on our network. We choose only the best upstream providers and the best routing equipment in the market.

Our customers constantly praise us for the performance and stability their services enjoy at our facility.

To prove this to you, we have made a simple speed test available to all prospective customers. Below, you will find information that will help test our network's performance from your location.

If for some reason it does not perform to your expectations, contact us immediately and we will analize what might be wrong. Remember that the Internet is made up of thousands of connections and routers, and one of them somewhere might be causing the tests below to "seem" to underperform.

Speed rate test via http* 50MB ZIP file
Ping test ** Ping IP 72.18.207.149 (ServerPoint.com)
Traceroute test Traceroute.org
You can perform traceroutes from all over the
world to our domain, ServerPoint.com.

*   In theory, if you have a very large connection and are not too far away from our network, you should be able to download this file at nearly 100 megabits per second. Of course, the download rate will depend on your connection, how far away you are from our network, etc. Be aware that if you are testing from a "consumer level" connection, such as DSL or cable, your connection varies depending on what other subscribers of your ISP are doing. DSL and cable are not dedicated connections (even though DSL providers claim it is), but your connection is actually shared by every other subscriber in the network. Also, speed rate is affected by bandwidth control mechanisms implemented by your provider to reduce their connectivity costs.

Download tests have been performed from the following locations:
Connection type Location Download rate of 50MB file above
5 meg cable modem Savanah, GA
(east coast, USA)
568 KB/s (full 5 meg speed)
10 meg cable modem Las Vegas, NV
(south west, USA)
1,100 KB/s (full speed)
5 meg cable modem Houston, TX
(central USA)
513 KB/s (full 5 meg speed)
DS3 Ashton, Virginia
(east coast, USA)
4.8 MB/s (38mbps, full speed; this DS3 is busy with other activity)
T1 Orlando, FL
(south east, USA)
170 KB/s (full speed)

If you'd like us to add your speed results to the list above, please let us know.

**   The server used for this test is located in Las Vegas, Nevada (250 miles northeast of Los Angeles, California). Average ping test results should show:
  • Southern west coast, such as California: 4-10ms.
  • Northern west coast, such as Washington: 20-25ms.
  • Central South, such as Texas: 30-40ms.
  • Northern east coast, such as New York: 60-70ms
  • Southern east coast, such as Florida: 50-60ms

Be aware that DSL and cable connections add about 40ms to any ping test due to limitations in such technologies. Satellite connections add anywhere from 100 to 300ms to a ping test.
