We’ve added Lumen Technologies to the network stack at our Las Vegas data center. This is a significant addition to our routing infrastructure for VPS hosting and dedicated server customers.
Who is Lumen
Lumen Technologies is the company that brought together some of the most important backbone networks in North America: Level3 Communications, CenturyLink, and Time Warner Telecom. Level3 alone operated one of the largest IP backbones on the planet, with major presence at every significant peering point in the US and connections to networks worldwide. Combined under Lumen, this is a tier-1 network with massive capacity and reach.
What this means for your servers
Adding Lumen to our Las Vegas network stack gives your VPS and dedicated server traffic more routing options. In practice, that means:
Better path diversity: If one of our transit providers has congestion or a routing issue, traffic can take a different path through Lumen. More carriers equals more resilience.
Lower latency to more destinations: Lumen peers directly with thousands of networks. If your end users are on a network that peers with Lumen, traffic takes a shorter path than it would through a chain of intermediary networks.
Stronger US coverage: Las Vegas already has good West Coast connectivity, but Lumen’s backbone extends deep into the Midwest, East Coast, and international markets. This improves routing for VPS hosting workloads that serve national or global audiences.
Our Las Vegas network stack
With Lumen, our Las Vegas data center now has multiple tier-1 and tier-2 transit providers, plus Path.net DDoS protection on all traffic. We use BGP to select the best route for each packet, so your traffic automatically takes the fastest available path.
What’s available in Las Vegas
Las Vegas supports Linux VPS hosting, Windows VPS hosting, and bare metal dedicated servers. We have both Gen 3 (Xeon E5 v4) and Gen 4 (Xeon Gold 3.5 GHz) hypervisors at this location. DDoS protection is included on all plans.
Las Vegas is a strong choice for US hosting. It’s centrally located in the western US, has competitive power costs (which keeps our pricing competitive), and offers excellent connectivity to both coasts. Deploy from the portal or contact us for more information.
