Starting a blog sounds complicated, but it’s really three steps: get a domain, get hosting, and install WordPress. You can have a blog live in under an hour.
Step 1: Choose a domain name
Your domain is your blog’s address (e.g., myblog.com). Check availability at any domain registrar. If the .com is taken, consider .net, .io, or another TLD. Keep it short, memorable, and easy to spell.
Step 2: Get hosting
For a blog, you have two main options. Web hosting is the simplest: you get a shared server with cPanel, and WordPress can be installed with a few clicks. It’s cheap and easy but limited in customization.
A Linux VPS gives you more control. You get your own virtual server with root access, which means you can install plugins, configure caching, tune PHP settings, and scale resources as your blog grows. For most bloggers who plan to grow, a VPS is the better long-term choice.
We offer both options. Web hosting plans start at a few dollars a month, and VPS hosting plans give you more power for not much more.
Step 3: Install WordPress
If you chose web hosting with cPanel, WordPress installs in a few clicks through Softaculous or a similar installer. If you chose a VPS, you can install WordPress manually (Nginx/Apache + PHP + MySQL) or use our automated cPanel installer which handles everything.
Once WordPress is installed, pick a theme, write your first post, and publish. Keep WordPress and all plugins updated for security. Add a backup plan so you don’t lose your content.
Growing your blog
As your blog gets traffic, you may need to upgrade. On VPS hosting, you can resize to a larger plan. If your blog gets really big, you can separate the database onto its own VPS or move to a dedicated server for maximum performance.
