Windows Server 2022 on VPS hosting and dedicated servers

By ServerPoint's Team ·

Windows Server 2022 is available on both our VPS hosting platform and bare metal dedicated servers. If you’re still running 2016 or 2019, this release is worth the upgrade for the performance and security improvements alone.

What’s new in Windows Server 2022

Smaller footprint: The Server Core installation is leaner than 2019, which means faster boot times and more RAM left for your applications. On a Windows VPS where every megabyte of RAM counts, that’s a real benefit.

TLS 1.3 by default: Windows Server 2022 enables TLS 1.3 out of the box, which provides faster HTTPS handshakes and stronger encryption. Older TLS versions are still supported for backward compatibility, but new connections default to the latest protocol.

DNS-over-HTTPS: The built-in DNS client supports DoH, so DNS queries from your server can be encrypted. This prevents DNS snooping and tampering on the network path.

Secured-core server: For workloads that handle sensitive data, Secured-core features protect the boot process and firmware layer from tampering. This is especially relevant for compliance-driven environments (healthcare, finance, government).

Azure Arc integration: If you use Azure for management or monitoring, Windows Server 2022 has tighter integration with Azure Arc for hybrid scenarios. You can manage your dedicated server or VPS alongside Azure resources from a single pane.

Nested virtualization

On our VPS hosting platform, Windows Server 2022 supports nested virtualization. That means you can run Hyper-V inside your Windows VPS and create VMs within your VM. This is useful for development and testing environments, running Windows containers with Hyper-V isolation, and lab setups where you need multiple isolated environments without renting multiple servers.

Common uses for Windows Server 2022

  • IIS web hosting: Run ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core, or classic ASP websites on Windows VPS with the latest IIS and .NET runtime
  • SQL Server: Host Microsoft SQL Server databases with full Windows integration
  • Remote Desktop Services: Provide remote desktop access for teams that need Windows applications from anywhere
  • Active Directory: Run a domain controller for managing users, permissions, and group policy
  • File and print servers: Share files and printers across your network from a centralized dedicated server

How to deploy

For VPS hosting, log into the Client Portal, create a new Windows VPS, and select Windows Server 2022 as your OS template. Your server is ready in minutes with a Microsoft license included.

For dedicated servers, Windows Server 2022 can be installed during provisioning. We’re a licensed Microsoft partner, so we handle the licensing. Contact our team if you need a specific edition (Standard vs Datacenter) or additional Microsoft software installed.
